Words of Wisdom from PMPs

Two years back, I joined many PMP groups just to gather the info regarding the exam. And I was silently following mails from you people. I read nearly 40 or 50 LL?s and most of them I read more than once and noted down important things. Somehow felt this has helped me a lot. When I took membership, I didn’t have any questions, by then, I knew what exactly was needed to cross the line, that was the use of these groups. At the time when I was thinking it’s going to be an “operation” instead of “project”, said IT’S ENOUGH, I took the exam date exactly 55 days before the D-day. (Nabi Rasool)
“Don’t procrastinate! If you really want to become PMP start study now but become member and set plan to take exam within 3-6 months. (Nilesh Tandale)”

I believe the following 2 books are more than enough for PMP preparation, Read thru both books twice.
• First Read Rita’s “PMP Exam Prep” without taking any of the chapter tests; this is to get better understanding since PMBOK was named “ the best sleeping pills” ?, then 2nd time read along with PMBOK chapter by chapter.
• PMBOK: read it twice, detail chapter by chapter along Rita Book first time, before my exam skimmed thru within 2 days.
• Also try to use PMBOK e-Copy downloaded from PMI for quick searches. Print out Page 43 and ITTO summary page of each knowledge area. (note from PMHUB: PMBOK 4 page 43
• Use BrainBok for ITTOs references (No need to memorize, understand them)

7) Glossary is an excellent way to revise for the exams. Try that as much as you can. If you have soft copy of many books try the glossary for PMBOK, Rita and then on the other books to verify your knowledge. Some words like “Tailoring”, “Tornado diagram” will not appear in Rita but it appears in PMBOK and appeared few times in the actual exam If you are one of those guys who cannot buy expensive flash cards then the simplest way that worked for me is get to the index of PMBOK. You will surely see more than 20 items that you never came across before. This is an important trick to verify. Please try this and you will find its importance. (Mukundan)

“For the exam day I took a holiday because I wanted to be focused only on the exam. Don’t underestimate the four hours it takes for taking the exam. You should train staying focused for this period.
It is a good idea to visit your test center a week before the exam to see how long it takes you to get there and see for example if there enough parking possibilities etc.
On my exam day it was 33 degree outside and nearly the same temperature inside of the testing room which had no air condition.
So if you are going to schedule your exam for the summer it is a good idea to check if they have air condition.
The exam is challenging so you do not need any further challenges.” (Soeren Huettemann)
