Question: What is the validity period for the 35hrs contact program before the PMP exam? Answer from some member: You will have to undergo the training from PMI R.E.P. (Registered Education Provider) to gain those 35 contact hours credit.
Short answer: the 35 contact hours is valid for life, unlimited time. there is NO requoirement to get this from a PMI REP - any university and college course in PM related subject may be used.
ADDED July 12, 2009: Lecture on 35 Contact Hours The 35 contact hours earned by you have no limited expiry date. It is for life.
The only condition is that they should have been earned before you submit your PMP application, or for any credential exam of PMI.
This courses include courses related to project management that you received in college/university, from your company or from attending courses anywhere (web-based, classroom) or combination of the courses as long as it totals to 35 hours.
I received many questions relating to the validity of PMPrepcast since the company is not a PMI REP. This is a myth perpetrated by many members.
Please carefully read the PMP Handbook here. The answer to this question is explicitly written on page 7: "Document all education hours regardless of when they were accrued". It does not really matter where you get this course/courses from (whether REP, University, just a training provider) - on this same page it also list what courses satisfy the requirement. It does not have to be from a PMI REP. Once you got 35 contact hours, do not worry - there is no expiry date on them. Do not worry, be happy. Most of you have those 35 Contact Hours in your pocket already!
In summary the 35 hour mandatory contact hour can be from one or more of the following types below: - Courses or programs offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (REP) - University / College academic and continuing education programs - Courses or programs offered by training companies or consultants - Courses or programs offered by PMI Component organizations - Courses or programs offered by employer / company-sponsored programs - Courses or programs offered by distance-learning companies, including an end of course assessment

I have been reading these myth in many PMP Yahoogroups and members could not care less. They just ignore or accept - most ignore mails. Thanks for recording a useful article and anybody could check whether this is correct or not by reading the PMI handbook. Unfortunately many have no time or are too lazy to check
You have not read about the PMP Myth here in PM Digest. It does not matter - contact hours is applicale to all PM subject, even the one you got in University 30 years ago or whatever. read abot those myths and relax.

Need help with my question. I had attended online course on Corporate Finance (one-semester) from UG21 of Singapore in Winter of 2006-2007. Would it count and how many hours of PMP Prep Study Hours would it count as ?
Hi, Some1, please reply. I had attended this online MBA-Level course in Corporate Finance from University Global21 (UG21) institution of Singapore. They shipped me the Text Book. We had to attend online lectures, read the book, send in assignments, and participate ion chat-room discussions on topics. These discussions were also peer-evaluated, and then graded, and recorded for future review; which was great. Since in a normal classroom these would have been verbal and lost to the winds. I am sure Corporate Finance is relevant to PMP; but would the PMI agree ? I already have 25 or so hours of Certified PDU Contact Hours; so this would give me the remaining 10 hours. I am done studying. I just need to do a final month of part-time preparation, if this 10 Hours is valid. Should I ask the Prometric Test Center about confirming this issue for me? Regards,
@Susheel: In my opinion Corporate finance is not really PM stuff. But PMI is the one who decide. do not waste yr tinme to contact Prometric. This compnay just conduct test, nothing else. call PMI or just include the course and let the PMI decide. Your choice

Thanks for REPLY, albeit late. I just ran across an archive of my question, and tried an internet search to find out which forum / site I had sent this question to; and found your answer.
The reason I feel 30% of the 4 month coursework would apply for PMP purpose is the overlap with cost management, project evaluations ( Time value of Money, Financial Statements, IRR, NPV, Capital Asset Pricing Model etc).
Also, I attended a course on Organizational Behaviour (3 hrs *10 weeks) from the School of Business as an elective part of my Master Of Computer Science studies. Since it overlaps with HR and Project COmmunications aspects, can I count about 6 hours out of 30 hours for PMP ?
In my transcript, i think it just shows up as "Elective Course 1 or 2" etc.. Could I self-certify this? Or would I need to get a certificate from that university in another continent now?
