Hassan, PMP, ITIL: ITIL Paths

Hassan

Introduction
ITIL® is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world. ITIL provides a cohesive set of best practice, drawn from the public and private sectors internationally.

ITIL Vs. MBA/Master
MBA/Masters are taken in not less than two years with a lot of effort, time, money, and exams. At the same time MBA is related mainly to BUSINESS in general and not to IT in specific, and the Masters degree is 99% academic even when it is totally related to IT.
ITIL is 100% related to IT, Infrastructure, services Operation, services Delivery, and service Management.

ITIL Versions

ITIL Version 2
1. ITIL v2 Foundation
2. ITIL Managers Certificate: very tough written exam (more than PMP) and you have on choise for computer base exam or distance exam if you will use Loyalist as your exam provider.

It consists of two exams:
A. Service Delivery – SD : 5 Processes + 1 Function (Focus on tactical and planning level)
-Incident Management
-Problem Management
-Change Management
-Release Management
-Configuration Management
-Service Desk

B. Service Support – SS: 5 Processes (Focus on operational day to day activities)
-Service Level Management
-Availability Management
-Capacity Management
-IT Service Continuity Management
-Financial Management

    Hi:

I am in Development, I should go for Service Delivery or Service Support ?

    How to initiate. Please advice.

    Regards
    Anjum A K

  • hassan2k

    Hi Anjum,

I do recommend that you start by service support first (Operational Stage) which is more tangible for you. then, try service delivery (Tactical and strategic) stage.

but, keep in mind this is ITIL V2 base which is not have less information than V3. you will find the changes only at the structure and some additional rules.

Please let me know if there’s any issue.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dear Hasan,
Can you throw some light on the Badges? As you mentioned ITIL (Green Badge). I would like to opt for ITIL Managers exam.

    Regards
    Srikanth

  • hassan2k

if you cleared the Service Manager Exam, you will have (Red Badge).

    Thanks in advance!

I want to appear for the ITIL Exam but confused between V2 and V3. Can you please explain little bit more about the difference between these two ver. Shall we go for V2 or V3?

    Thanks
    Leo

  • Srikanth

    Hassan,
I am still confused about this badgers. Can you brief me about those please?

  • hassan2k

    @Leo: From my humble opinion:
you have to go for V3 because V2 will be expired by next July.

    @Srikanth:
    Green Badge: Foundation
    Red Badge: Service Manager

if you want more, please check the v3 link in my blog.

    For all readers:
I found that i reversed the processes contents:

    A. Service Support – SD : 5 Processes + 1 Function (Focus on operational day to day activities)
    -Incident Management
    -Problem Management
    -Change Management
    -Release Management
    -Configuration Management
    -Service Desk

    B. Service Delivery– SS: 5 Processes (Focus on tactical and planning level)
    -Service Level Management
    -Availability Management
    -Capacity Management
    -IT Service Continuity Management
    -Financial Management

Please keep that in your minds.

    Thanks in advance!
