Dear PMP Aspirants

I am happy to announce that I passed my PMP Exam on 7-June-2010 . This is one of the great achievement in my professional career. It really gives a Great feel within us and People started looking with unique feel and respect.

I just wanted to share my experience on PMP examination and wanted to portray briefly about this to all.  I was preparing for PMP for nearly a year from June 2009 to June 2010. I was a PMI member from 10 June 2009.  I started preparing by reading PMBOK 4 Guidelines , made myself clear with PMBOK tools and techniques. The 35 hour contact training i had, really helped me to understand about PMI as well as PMP &PMBOK. I had also gone through a book from Joseph Philips. This is really very intense and easy to understand the concepts of Project Management. The materials provided by my training centres has really helped me to attain my certification. I did took lot of online examinations from Tutorials.com, Oliverliehmann, PMStudy.com,Headfirst… etc… I do read the practical concepts written in the PMI Project Management magazine which helped me to get an idea of real time best practices.

I scheduled my examination before June several times but i was finally able to take it on 7 june 2010. Before the day of examination, I did reviewed the PMBOK guideline, PMBOK Diagrams, Tools & Techniques, Formulaes that really helped me to gain confidence towards examination.  This day is always important everyone to get prepared well.

On the  Examination Day, i did applied for afternoon session with Prometric around 1 pm and i was there by 12.30 PM. I was asked to keep all my belongings into store room as there is a strict security being followed during the examination. I just entered into my exam cabin and the examiner asked me revise the initial test demo that took 15 mins,On completion of that,i just proceeded to see my question. My Mind was really calm and on seeing the first question, i did realised i will surely PASS the PMP certification today. I  then started reviewing all 200 questions and whereever i felt the answers are correct, i then immediately selected it and marked for review. This way i was able to see all questions and made my self comfortable with them.  This will certainly take atleast an hour to complete as this purely depends on your intuition.  While reviewing again from the start, i did changed few answers as i felt those need to be changed.  This way i did complete every questions within 2 hours and was waiting for final results. I did take 2 brakes every 1 hours for drinking water and relaxed to some extent.  The examination purely test our practical application mind that knows what is right for particular situation. It was really a good feel that i was able to answer all the questions.

On the last minute, it was really a exciting time as the results were seen only after finishing the survey questions. Those seconds increases the heart beat little high due to waiting. But when i saw this message “Congratulations on passing the PMP exam”, it was really a GREAT MOMENT and FEEL.

Best Regards

    Hi Manish

Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. I had various business trips and was not able to reply you. My study contents are listed below

    Books to Study
    1.) PMBOK 4 twice
2.) Joseph Philips – Very good material for deep understanding of PM processes especailly contracts and procurement
3.) Rita – bible to have listed items of PMP. Good Tips and Memory Points for easier reference

You need to revise the above 3 times atleast. Apart from these, there are lot of other books and references & blogs i frequently refer and get updates.

    Tests

1.) If you have good internet access, you will get good free online materials for study and take tests
2.) Take lot of tests before you go for exam. I got some old pmp books at book stores where i did practiced lot

    All the very best.
    Best Regards
    Dhinesh Kumar
