So it’s been a while since anyone has posted CAPM Lessons Learned, so here is mine.
First I am your ideal CAPM candidate as I’ve only been working in the project field for less than 2 years and have yet to advance to a PM position.
I did not memorize the ITTO, I did memorize the Process Chart, EVM formulas, and Communication Channel formula, during the 15 minute tutorial I wrote it all down in the scrap booklet they provide. The notes came in handle during the exam when your brain is fried and you can’t think straight after 2 hours.
As for studying I used the following materials:
PMBOK (4th edition)
The CAPM Exam: How to Pass on Your First Try: Andy Crowe (based on PMBOK 3rd)
PMP Exam Prep, Sixth Edition – Rita Mulcahy
Practice Exams from:
PMSTUDY 150 Questions - http://www.pmstudy.com/enroll.asp#CAPM
PM ABC 75 Questions - http://www.pm-abc.com/Free_Simulated_Test.asp
All the tests from the text books.
The test was fair and some questions were difficult, however I felt they were the test questions so I knew I had a margin to work with. Overall I took about 90 minutes to get through the first one, and then I reviewed every question which took about 45 minutes taking approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes total.
After clicking on ‘END’ the computer prompted a PMI survey which I declined. Then the screen went blank white for about 5 agonizing seconds, which I assume was for calculating my score and finally the PMI congratulations screen came up.
This PMHUB forum really helped me out with any questions I had, good luck to all future exam takers!
