Effective and efficient communication influences both personnel and professional life, which is a two-way process and it is a dialogue not a monologue. It is well said long back  “Pen is mightier than the Sword” to tell us how words communicated are powerful which reformed those days history and is important consideration of stakeholders requirement.  Let us see the definition of communication in this context: Communication is the process by which people exchange information or express their thoughts and feelings. Good communication is essential in both personnel and professional life to meet out the goals or defined objectives. Respect in communication is always essential and let us see some of the positive communication parameters in the acronym of R.E.S.P.E.C.T as

R: Rapport – Rapport in Communication is the art of getting along with others and if there is genuineness and respect it can achieve amazing desired outcomes. We can communicate or respond to people any way we want but it just depends on the kind of relationship we want.

E: Empathy – Empathy is emphasized as one of the essential ingredients of good communication. We must have passion and compassion to get things done and also to avoid conflicts in both personal and professional life.

S: Self-esteem – Everyone feels important or worthwhile and hence disdain and dogmatism in communication must be avoided. We all want to be recognized and as by the words of Aristotle “We should behave to our friends as we would wish our friends behave to us”.

P: Precise –The revolution in electronic communications fosters the need for communicating clearly, briefly, timely and precisely which is getting more and more important these days. The goal in precise communication is to uncover the most amount of information in the least amount of time, with style and elegance. It is better to follow SMART criteria instead of generalization in order to avoid unnecessary communication roadblocks.

E: Educate – Education or Learning is a holistic approach that brings together cognitive, emotional, environmental influences and experiences to acquire knowledge, which is life-long process, According to the Great Leader Abdul Kalam in his book  ‘You are Born to BLOSSOM’ wrote education as a central tenet that typically includes “imparting of knowledge”. At a very basic level, this purpose ultimately deals with the nature, origin and scope of knowledge. But equally important is to analyse the nature and variety of knowledge and how it relates to similar notions such as truth and belief.

C: Confidence – Confidence does wonders and is written in Thirukurral as

The will-to-do achieves the deed
When mind that wills is strong indeed.

When we are confident, then our ability to achieve the goal is enhanced and ensured.

T: Thinking – As from the words of Bhavad Gita “Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is”. Freedom of thought plays a major part from those days to this modern information age. Positive thinking instills element of joy and fulfillment in people by increasing individual awareness of the different aspects of the human condition.

We all know communication is apt when it is reached and understood and communication is influential and hence it is given the first and foremost importance and requirement in the knowledge of Project management. People come upfront irrespective of any tools, technology, systems etc., and hence the ability to communicate well can be improved and learned with the help of the parameters R.E.S.P.E.C.T which in turn enhances the respect of communication stakeholders.
